The major question when purchasing a new television used to a choice between buying a black and white or color TV. Then it became a question of what size of screen was best followed by whether to invest in the new flat screens or stick with the tried and true CRT models. Now that pretty much all new televisions are flat screen high definition machines, the question that remains is whether to purchase an LCD or plasma TV.
The main differences between the competing technologies are price (LCD is usually cheaper), size (plasma screens can be larger while LCDs are available in very small sizes), color (plasma offers higher definition and truer blacks), and lighting environments (LCD TV are much easier to see in bright rooms or when watching TV during the day).
While it is always good to read specific plasma and lcd tv reviews when deciding on a brand or model, there are some general guidelines. LCD TVs are great for smaller screen sizes, daytime viewing, and game play. Plasmas work much better in larger sizes (over 42 inches), are great for viewing movies in dark settings, and provide better resolution for large groups spread across a room and viewing the TV from different angles
