The Balearic Islands are famed as a group of holiday islands located on the Mediterranean off the coast of Spain. The largest island is Mallorca (or Majorca) which is the largest of the islands. Since the 1960s it has developed into the archetypal European holiday destination where the sun, sea and drinks are soaked up by tourists from Northern Europe. Most of the south side of the island is heavily built up with four star Mallorca hotels and apartments. There are also many five star Majorca hotels also available for discriminating tourists.
Away from the busy coastal areas lies the beautiful Tramuntana hills. Recently the whole island has been updating the hotels and resorts. This has given bith to new developments and hotels. The capital of Mallorca is Palma which has developed into one of Spain’s trendiest small cities.
Ibiza has long been famous for its rave, techno and music culture. This scene has mainly been situated in the chic capital – Ibiza Town as well as, San António and the resort of Playa d’en Bossa. There are many five star Ibiza hotels that attract a young and hip crowd to the island. However away from these areas the island is unspoiled and rural.
Close to Ibiza in the Balerics lies Formentera which is the smallest of the inhabited islands. This island paradise has soft white sands but can only be reached by boat or ferry. The island is becoming more popular with tourists and now has an impressive group of Formentera hotels.
The island of Menorca is popular with famalies and older holiday makers. The hotels in this Baleric resort cater to these tourists and offer a more old world approach to tourism.
