Restaurants are Good Models for Customer Service

Offering excellent customer service should not be a negotiable element for any business, yet sometimes staff members of retail companies seem to think it is. In addition, without adequate training to provide skills on power struggles and defensive responses to manipulation attempts and irate customers, a simple misunderstanding can quickly escalate into a mutually frustrating and disappointing scene. Ethically and professionally oriented businesspersons such as Steven Barbarich understand these skill and comprehension needs of all staff members and particularly anyone who deals directly with the consumer.

However, that is not intended to indicate that any staff person who does not deal directly with a customer should ignore the basic tenets of excellent customer service. The obvious example of this could be demonstrated with a restaurant staff such as line cooks and chefs. Timely and accurately prepared meals are aspects of customer service as well as are the quality and appearance of the dish. These elements cannot be ignored or neglected, as it will directly affect the satisfaction of the diner and consequently their continued patronage of the restaurant. And while it is usually the food server that will bear the grunt of a customer’s dissatisfaction and it will immediately affect their income, the overall result will be harmful to the entire staff.

This concept actually applies to most businesses though it is easily demonstrated by the structure of restaurant staff . In addition, restaurants are typically used in reference to customer service skills and expectations. This is due to the direct service nature of the industry and also in part to the fact that the consumer actually pays the food server for their service. However, it is absolutely necessary to consider the best way to respectfully and satisfactorily serve the client or consumer of any business. And once the proper guidelines are established it is essential to train all staff persons properly and insist that the guidelines are used and followed.
