Singapore Singer Muhammad Taufik
Singapore is an incredibly rich city, full of diverse cultural elements, and a progressive arts scene. It is thriving in contemporary significance while also remaining true to many of its traditional components and practices. There are numerous restaurants spread throughout the city that represent cuisine from around the world, as well as offering the best in local specialties. A Singapore hotel resort will offer the best in luxury accommodations as well as providing in house restaurants and cafes. They generally feature entertainment options and specific accommodations such as pools and spas.
Singapore has also produced many great personalities and performers. Its hit local television program Singapore Idol as become the equivalent of American Idol in the United States. Muhammad Taufik Bin Batisah is well known in Singapore and the program helped to launch his career. He was the first singer to win the title, and has since become one of its icons.
Taufik began singing with a local group called Bonafide. The band was known for its mixture of hip hop and R&B and was gaining in popularity on the local level before he auditioned for Singapore Idol. He secured his status in the top 12 by winning one of the highest amounts of votes in its earlier piano section. While competing in the top 12, Taufik was consistent in the quality of his performances and the uniqueness of his presentation. He quickly became an audience favorite. He was crowned the winner in December of 2004 before an audience of almost 2 million viewers across the country and 8,000 local fans. Due to the win and his recognition, and of course his great talent, he received a contract with Sony BMG and also began receiving endorsement offers from various companies. Some of the more major contracts were with 7-Eleven, Samsung and Harmuni Rice.
